Circular Concrete Initiative

Lifecycle-Accountable Standards for Concrete

Key Focus Areas

  • Clean-Loop Material Science: Aggregating research on binder and aggregate formulations that maintain structural purity and eliminate toxic contaminants across successive use cycles.

  • Design for Disassembly (DfD): Promoting engineering methodologies that prioritize modular precast elements, dry mechanical joints, and selective deconstruction protocols over irreversible demolition.

  • Material Traceability & Lineage: Advancing open frameworks for digital material passports, micro-taggants, and unbroken documentation chains across the full asset lifecycle.

  • Project ID: TG-2033
  • Principal Domains: System Resilience, Clean-Loop Materials, Clean-Loop Processes, Energy & Infrastructure Continuity

Protocol & Standards Alignment

CCI grounds its pre-normative research in independent standards stewardship frameworks, aligning with protocol families managed by the Unified Governance Systems Organization (UGSO):

  • UGA-0000313 (Clean-Loop Materials): Translating clean-loop and material-purity constraints into research benchmarks for concrete recovery.

  • UGA-0000404 (Energy & Infrastructure Continuity): Establishing lifecycle accountability requirements that preserve asset lineage beyond decommissioning.

Platform & Sector Deployment

As a neutral research and standards platform, CCI informs policy development, academic research, and sector-wide procurement criteria. In the energy sector, applied engineering, domain-specific specifications, and commercial execution are advanced through Circular Energy Infrastructure (CEI), which applies CCI standards to the concrete-intensive civil works of four energy domains:

  • Onshore wind
  • Offshore floating wind
  • Hydropower
  • Utility-scale solar
